Check Out “The Drop” This Weekend

Is The Drop any good?

I caught it yesterday at a prescreening. The answer is yes. This adaptation of a Dennis Lehane short story is full of well acted, well written characters and a story chock full of irony, dark comedy, and pathos. James Gandolfini’s final performance is worth the price of admission, but Tom Hardy’s performance as a lead character who seems simpler than he is holds the picture together. Noomi Rapace also shines as a woman who’s trying to keep together the life she’s reassembled. I don’t think I’d seen her prior to this movie, but I’m now anxious to see more.

I’ll add The Drop to my collection when it comes out on home video, but for those wondering if you should see it, stop wondering. See it now.
