Most of my readers are from the U.S. and U.K., two countries which could do better but, as we can see from this map from Transparency International, could also do a hell of a lot worse.

I recall a story from a former student who’d come from Iran. Apparently, to get an exit visa to emigrate to the United States, he had bribe the official whose job it was to certify that he wasn’t corrupt. He thought I’d smile at the irony. I did.
