I just finished watching Errol Morris’s Tabloid, which tells the story, or stories, of Joyce McKinney, the former Miss Wyoming who was accused of kidnapping and raping the Mormon missionary to whom she’d been engaged. I never thought Morris would interview anyone stranger than Fred Leuchter, but McKinney is truly odd. It seems clear she believes the story she spins of trying to rescue her fiancee from the Mormons, but, as is typical with Morris, it’s not clear whether her story is the truth, the kidnapping story is the truth, or whether the truth lies between or at a right angle to these two stories. I expect to be kept up nights thinking about it though.
