Because I don’t really know either person, though I do follow Ellis on Twitter, I can’t speak to the reasons why Bret Easton Ellis bags on David Foster Wallace. (Based on Ellis’s tweets, I think he just finds lots of things irksome and feels a need to provoke and confront.) But the editor who handled both writers in their early careers can. Read his article. Now I need to set about finding someone in the literary world who represents the antithesis of everything I want to do and hate that person with a seething, public passion. Any suggestions? I’m definitely ready to throw down.
