My 10 Favorite Songs From The Muppet Show

It’s hard to pick. There were so many memorable tunes. But these are the ten songs I recall most fondly from The Muppet Show. As is often true of my lists, these come in no particular order.

10. Cuanto Le Gusta

I love Miss Piggy’s dance moves in this one.

9. Train Back Home

I’m a sucker for George Burns. Even though I know he’d done his bits a billion times, he always sounded like he was just in a room with me, riffing and messing around.

8. Buddy Rich: The Drum Battle

Buddy Rich goes to war with Animal. Stand back. The battle at 2:25

7. Steve Martin: Ramblin’ Guy

Enough said.

6. Paul Simon: Scarborough Faire

Not only is it a great song, but the production design is amazing.

5. Halfway Down the Stairs

I’m not at the bottom and I’m not at the top either.

4. John Denver: The Garden Song

From the age of 8 to…hmmm…how am I doing with that?…I couldn’t get this song out of my head.

3. Elton John: Crocodile Rock

For the first time with actual crocodiles.

2: New York State of Mind

I much prefer Electric Mayhem’s version to Billy Joel’s.

1. Harry Belafonte: Turn the World Around

I lied a little. The rest of these weren’t in order, but this one is. This was the greatest song ever performed on the Muppet Show. I’ve heard Belafonte perform it since, but, though it’s admirable, it just isn’t the same without Henson’s puppets.
