Recap of the Book Blog Tour, Week Four

Three reviews came in this week. They varied: one positive, one mixed, one negative. Such is life.

Sara’s Organized Chaos endorsed Summer of Long Knives:

“Definitely not a book I would have picked up at the book store because it’s just not a genre I can really get into. Surprisingly though, I had a hard time putting this book down because you start off immediately with the murder of a young girl and the story ramps from there…

“If you are a fan of political thrillers, and/or a fan of Nazi Germany era stories, this is definitely something you need to add to your list.”

Diary of an Eccentric was less enthusiastic:

“Overall, I thought The Summer of Long Knives was an interesting novel about a fascinating period in history.”

The book failed to come alive for the third reviewer, Sarah’s Book Shelves, who advised her readers to “skip it”.

Curiously, in spite of the three disparate reactions, all the reviewers gave the book three stars on Goodreads. I guess the rating means different things to different people.

Week 5 should bring us two more reviews. Here’s the schedule:

Monday, October 13th: No More Grumpy Bookseller

Thursday, October 16th: Svetlana’s Reads and Views

Until next Friday…

  1. I’m sorry the book didn’t come alive for me, but there were some things that I really liked about it…namely the way you portrayed the Nazi organization…I was fascinated with the politics. And, the murder mystery itself was a good one…I just couldn’t get into things as much as I would have hoped.

As for the 3 star rating, I usually rate a book 3 stars if there were some things I really liked about it (as in this case) despite not loving the overall book, but I usually only recommend “read it” on my blog for 4 and 5 star books. Just wanted to explain the disparity between GR and the blog. To keep it simple for the blog, I think about whether this will be a book that I’ll be telling my friends to read…in that case it gets a “read it”.

I appreciated the opportunity to participate in the tour and best of luck!
